Etang de Planchon - Catch Reports 2011

Hi all, so here is the start of catch reports for Etang de Planchon.
They will be produced weekly but as this is the opening week I thought I would update you on the first couple of days.

Dean, Andy & Gary arrived Friday 18th March, they were going to stay in the Gite overnight and start fishing Saturday morning.
After they were collected from the airport and arrived at Etang de Planchon they were given a drink and a bite to eat.
The guys were full of questions about the lake, as we chatted I could see their eagerness to get at the virgin carp so I asked them if they fancied a few hours before dinner and drinks that evening. I am not sure I finished my sentence before they were off down to the lake.

Dean & Gary have fished France before but this was Andy’s first trip to France.

The guys were set up in no time at all, Dean & Andy were the first to get a line wet and within 30 minutes, Andy was in to the first carp to come out of Etang de Planchon since it had been stocked.

Andy was chuffed to say the least as he had landed a 31lb mirror, a PB for Andy and at that point the lake record.

Since that first fish another 19 have come out and here is what they have caught.

Dean has had 5 carp, 23.8lb, 26.4lb, 26lb, 28.2lb & a lovely 36.8lb



Andy has had 6 carp, 23.12lb, 25.4lb, 2 x 26.2lb & 2 x 31lb



Garry has had 10 carp, 20lb, 2 x 22lb, 23lb, 23.8lb, 2 x 25.8lb, 28.4lb, 29lb & 39lb.



I will post an update on the rest of the week after they finish their session on Saturday.

The opening week at Etang de Planchon ended with 48 carp being caught by the 3 guys on the lake, Dean, Andy & Gary
Dean caught 10 Carp weighing in total 288.4lb, they were: 21lb, 23.8lb, 26.4lb, 2 x 27.4lb, 28.2lb, 29.6lb, 34lb, 35lb & 36.8lb

Andy caught 11 Carp, weighing in total 306.1lb, they were: 22.8lb, 23.12lb, 25.4lb, 2 x 26.2lb, 26.12lb, 27.5lb 3 x 31lb & 34.4lb

Gary caught 27 fish weighing in total 714lb, they were: 20lb, 20.4lb, 3 x 22lb, 23.4lb, 2 x 23.8lb, 23.10lb, 24.10lb, 2 x 25lb, 2 x 25.4lb, 2 x 25.8lb, 3 x 27lb, 28.4lb, 29lb, 31lb, 2 x 34.10lb & 39lb

Week 2 at Etang de Planchon saw just 1 angler fishing the lake.
John had his wife and 3 young boys staying in the Gite so he didn’t get a chance to fish 24/7 but he did manage to land 23 fish with a total weight of 537lb & 11oz.

His top 5 fish were 28.2lb, 28.7lb, 28.8lb, 29.7lb and 31.5lb.

A surprise for the week was a lovely 13lb common which was mistakenly returned to the main lake. This common was originally destined for the stock pond and when she is caught again I will be giving the angler a nice bottle of wine and the honour of putting her in the stock pond where she will stay for a few years.

Here are a few photos from the week.

Week 3 at Etang de Planchon had 2 groups of 2 fishing the lake.
Jason, Alex, Steven & John. Steven & John are Pike / Match anglers from the UK so carp fishing was relatively new to them.

Jason started the week in Falcon and moved to Owl mid week and in total managed to land 18 fish: 24.5lb, 22lb, 2 x 23lb, 25lb, 23.4lb, 23.5lb common, 25lb, 37lb, 22.5lb 29lb, 20lb, 34lb, 21lb common, 18.8lb, 24lb, 27lb & 27.5lb.



Alex was a bit more laid back with his fishing and managed to catch 4 fish: 19.5lb, 20lb, 23.5lb & 24lb.



Steven was pleased with his 6 for the week, this included a 4lb pike that took his double pink pepper pop up off the top of the water. The carp weighed in at: 19lb, 20lb, 23lb common, 25.8lb common & 29.2lb.



John was so happy with his week he said he may even get himself some carp gear when in the UK so he can do both match and carp fishing. John managed to land 7 for the week: 20lb, 23lb, 26.8lb, 26.8lb common 29lb & 30.4lb.

Hi all,

Well week 4 saw the crew from the happy hookers forum grace the banks of Etang de Planchon.

Between the 5 of them they managed to land 68 Carp and 1 pike, 7 of these were 30lb+
It was a great week and a mixed bag of weather.

The anglers fishing were: John & Shirley Hawkins, Trevor Horne, Steve Skillin and Mark Hayes.
The scores on the doors for the week were as follows:

Trevor Horne had the biggest and the most fish all week, 25 fish (including 1 pike). The carp weighed in at a total of 594.15lb.
His catches were: 20.8lb, 21lb, 21.4lb, 2 x 21.8lb, 22.6lb, 22.12lb, 23.1lb, 23.9lb, 23.10lb, 3 x 26.2lb, 27lb, 27.8lb, 28.12lb, 29.8lb, 29.9lb, 30.4lb, 32.2lb & 39lb.
Trevor also caught the rogue 13lb Common and another rogue 14.2lb common that have now been put in the stock pond.



Mark was on his heels for the most fish with his catch of 22 fish for the week. The carp weighed in total 525lb.
His catches were: 19lb, 19.2lb, 2 x 20lb, 20.2lb, 21lb, 22lb, 22.2lb, 23.4lb, 24lb, 24.2lb, 24.8lb, 3 s 25lb, 2 x 25.4lb, 26lb, 26.8lb, 28.12lb, & 2 x 29.8lb.



John landed 12 carp during the week, 2 of which were 30lb+, his total carp weight was: 332.02lb.
His catches were: 21lb, 24lb, 5lb, 26lb, 26.6lb, 26.12lb, 28lb, 29lb, 29.8lb, 29.12lb, 32.8lb & 33.4lb



Shirley was beating John early in the week in regards to biggest fish with her 7 carp, 2 of which were 30lb+. Her carp weighed in at a total of 190.11lb
Her catches were: 22.6lb, 22.8lb, 24.6lb, 28.5lb, 29.6, 31.4lb & 32.8lb


Steve had a relatively slow week but the wind was against him and he caught 3 carp and they were: 19.5lb common, 24lb common & 24lb mirror.



All in all, another great week.

Hi all,

So week 5 saw Chris and Paul Wenham from Surrey land 86 Carp between them.
Both of them managed to individually catch more than any previous angler since the lake opened. The previous lake record for quantity was 27, Paul caught 30 but Chris more than doubled it with 54 gracing his net.
Paul finished the week with the largest fish at 37lb.
A great week for both of them.

Chris caught a total weight of fish of 1340lb, in amongst the mix were 5 30’s:
16.2lb, 2 x 18.3lb, 2 x 19.2lb, 19.3lb, 19.6lb, 20lb, 3 x 20.4lb, 2 x 20.6lb, 20.7lb, 2 x 20.10lb, 21lb, 2 x 21.2lb, 21.4lb, 3 x 22lb, 2 x 22.2lb, 22.8lb, 22.10lb, 23.2lb, 23.4lb, 23.12lb, 24.6lb, 24.7lb, 24.10lb, 3 x 25lb, 25.2lb, 25.8lb, 26lb, 26.10lb, 27.2lb, 2 x 27.8lb, 27.12lb, 28lb, 28.12lb, 29.2lb, 29.4lb, 2 x 29.6lb, 30.5lb, 31.2lb, 31.12lb, 32.4lb & 33lb

Paul caught a total weight of fish of 682lb, in amongst the mix were 3 30’s:
17.2lb, 2 x 18lb, 18.3lb, 18.4lb, 18.8lb, 19.2lb, 19.6lb, 20lb, 20.2lb, 20.6lb, 2 x 21.4lb, 21.10lb, 22.2lb, 22.12lb, 23.2lb, 23.4lb, 23.12lb, 24lb, 2 x 24.6lb, 2 x 25.2lb, 25.12lb, 27lb, 28.2lb, 3.2lb, 31.12lb & 37lb.

Week 6 saw 2 people fishing at Etang de Planchon.
Mick Sharpe & Dave Passoni from Weymouth landed 44 carp between them totalling 1072lb.

Mick landed 31 carp, 4 of which were 30’s and his total catch weight for the week was 756 lb 8 oz.
His catches were: 18.12lb, 2 x 19.5lb, 19.8lb, 3 x 21lb, 2 x 21.2lb, 2 x 21.8lb, 4 x 22.5lb, 23.2lb, 23.5lb, 23.6lb, 24lb, 24.8lb, 25lb, 26lb, 27.5lb, 28, 28.5lb, 29lb, 29.10lb, 2 x 32lb, 33.4lb & 33.5lb common.

Dave landed 13 carp, his first 2 catches were 30’s and his total weight for the week was 315 lb 8 oz.
His catches were: 18lb, 20.8lb, 21.8lb, 2 x 22.4lb, 23lb, 23.4lb, 25lb, 25.4lb, 26lb, 26.8lb, 30.14lb & 31.2lb.

Week 7 & 8

Sunday 1st of May saw the fish at Etang de Planchon begin a spawning phase, it also saw the arrival of Kris Bell & James Sullivan.
Kris and James made the decision to hold off putting lines in the water in the hopes that this would help the spawning finish quicker.
Tuesday morning saw the lake calm and they both put their rods in.
It was slow going at first as they started in Kestrel & Harrier, but as the week progressed it was getting a little better.
They changed swims on the Friday as a party requiring 2 double swims arrived.
James & Kris moved to Owl & Buzzard and were happy they did, as James ended the week with 3 consecutive 30’s (biggest at 38lb) and Kris caught 3 times the number of fish he had caught up till then.

Kris caught 16 Fish totalling 365lb 10oz.
His catches were: 16lb, 19lb, 21lb, 21.3lb, 21.8lb, 22lb, 3 x 23lb, 23.5lb, 2 x 24lb, 24.5lb, 25.2lb, 27lb & 27.3lb.

James caught 11 fish totalling 287lb 3oz
His catches were: 18.5lb, 20.5lb, 21lb, 2 x 21.5lb, 26lb, 27lb, 27.5lb, 31.5lb, 33.5lb & 38lb.

Pete, Brett, Fraser and George were the party of 4 that arrived on Friday for a short weekend and left on Monday.
The spawning had definitely put the fish off feeding the southerly end of the lake as only Pete & George managed to catch.
Pete caught 2 and they were 27.1lb & 24lb.
George (aged only 12) managed to catch his PB at 24lb.

The fish in the lake have now calmed down and have a break until Saturday, I am expecting them to be greedy monsters for the next load of anglers.

Week 9 saw the arrival of 3 lads from Surrey.

Scott, Darren & Richard started fishing after the lake had rested for 4 days.
Between them they managed to land 66 fish, 2 of which were pike. The carp totalled 1416 lb & 7 oz, of which 5 were 30’s.
The biggest out was 35 lb 1 oz.

Scott caught 20 carp totalling 433 lb 15 oz
His catches were: 15.4lb, 16.4lb, 17lb, 18lb, 2 x 18.2lb, 18.4lb, 2 x 18.6lb, 2 x 21lb, 2 x 22lb, 22.4lb, 23.6lb, 24lb, 26lb, 28lb, 32.5lb & 34.4lb.

Darren caught 19 Carp, totalling 416lb & 5oz, and 1 Pike.
His catches were: 3lb Pike, 16.8lb, 2 x 17.2lb, 17.6lb, 19lb, 19.5lb, 21.5lb, 2 x 21.6lb, 21.15lb, 2 x 22lb, 22.1lb, 22.5lb, 23.3lb, 25lb, 25.5lb & 2 x 31lb.

Richard walked away with the most Catches for the week with 25 Carp, totalling 566 lb & 3 oz, and 1 Pike.
His catches were: 16.2lb, 16.4lb, 16.8lb, 2 x 17lb, 17.8lb, 18lb, 18.15lb, 2 x 20lb, 20.6lb, 21lb, 21.5lb, 22lb, 22.10lb, 23.5lb, 25.2lb, 2 x 27lb, 27.5lb, 2 x 29lb, 29.2lb, 29.10lb & 35.1lb.

The guys all left happy after a good weeks fishing.

Week 10 saw the arrival of 4 lads from Kent.

Saturday saw another spawning session at Etang de Planchon, the week started slow but picked up as the week went on.

Andy, Dan, Jason & Scott managed to land 46 fish between them. The carp totalled 1037 lb & 6 oz, of which 3 were 30’s.
Scott walked away with the largest of the week at 38 lb 12 oz.


Jason walked away with the most carp for the week by catching 19 Carp totalling 425 lb 04 oz
His catches were: 17lb, 17.4lb, 18lb, 18.4lb, 18.8lb, 2 x 19lb, 20.2lb, 20.4lb, 21lb, 23lb, 23.12lb, 25.2lb, 25.12lb, 26.2lb, 26.12lb, 27lb, 28.6lb & 31lb.

Dan caught 15 Carp, totalling 318lb & 9oz.
His catches were: 17lb, 17.4lb, 17.8lb, 17.12lb, 18.4lb, 18.12lb, 19.8lb, 20lb, 21lb, 21.4lb, 21.8lb, 26.2lb, 27.2lb, 27.7lb & 28.2lb.

Andy caught 8 Carp totalling 183 lb & 7 oz.
His catches were: 19lb, 19.8lb, 19.11lb, 20.8lb, 24lb, 24.8lb, 25.8lb & 30.12lb.

Scott managed to land 4 Carp for the week and he left having caught the biggest of the session, the Carp totalled 110 lb 2 oz.
His catches were: 21lb, 24lb, 26.6lb & 38.12lb.

All the guys were happy and all walked away with New French PB’s.

Week 11 saw the arrival of 3 lads from Cumbria.

The week started off a little quiet for the guys and the heat took its toll as one of the group managed to get sun burnt (despite being advised to put on sun cream and sit in the shade)

Let’s just say a lot of after sun was needed.

Jack, Mike & Nick managed to land 42 fish between them. The carp totalled 948 lb & 4 oz, of which 4 were 30’s.
Nick caught the largest of the week at 32 lb 4 oz.

Nick also walked away with the most carp for the week by catching 19 carp totalling 446 lb 8 oz
His catches were: 15.15lb, 17lb, 19lb, 19.12lb, 19.15lb, 20lb, 3 x 20.8lb, 23lb, 2 x 23.4lb, 26.4lb, 26.8lb, 28.4lb, 29.8lb, 30.3lb, 30.15lb & 32.4lb.

Mike caught 13 carp, totalling 280lb & 1oz.
His catches were: 15.8lb, 2 x 18.2lb, 18.15lb, 19.8lb, 19.14lb, 20.12lb, 22.4lb, 24.6lb, 2 x 24.14, 26lb & 26.14lb.

Jack caught 10 carp totalling 221 lb & 11 oz.
His catches were: 17lb, 17.1lb, 2 x 19.14lb, 20lb, 21.14lb, 23.4lb, 25lb, 26.14lb & 30.14lb.

All the guys were happy and are looking forward to a return visit.

Week 12 saw the arrival of Lewis Kerrigan from Preston.

The week started off on a Friday for Lewis, he started in Kestrel, moved to Falcon and decided to move back to Kestrel at the end of the week.

Lewis experimented with big beds of bait (Hemp, Pellet & Boilie), this paid off for him towards the end of the week.

Lewis managed to bag himself 19 Fish for the week, 1 of which was a 30.

His total catch weight for the week was 426 lb & 7 oz & his catches were: 17.2lb, 18lb, 18.4lb, 18.6lb, 2 x 18.12lb, 20.2lb, 20.8lb, 21lb, 21.6lb, 22lb, 24.4lb, 24.6lb. 25.4lb, 26.3lb, 26.4lb, 27lb, 27.12lb & 31.2lb.

Lewis is already planning his return with family and friends next year, looking forward to seeing you again Lewis.

Week 13 saw the arrival of Ross Clarke from Lincolnshire for a week & also a French angler (Johan Bonnefond) for 2 nights

Ross arrived with his wife Carrie and didn’t fish hard for the whole week, taking time out to spend with Carrie over the week. As Ross had the lake to himself he decided on moving around, he started in Kestrel, moved to Falcon and decided to move back to Kestrel at the end of the week.

Towards the end of the week Ross followed Lewis’ example from the previous week and experimented with big beds of bait (Hemp, Pellet & Boilie).
This method seems to be working as it resulted in 3 rods going off in quick succession on Ross’ last afternoon.

Ross managed to bag himself 15 Fish for the week, 1 of which was a 31.6lb.

His total catch weight for the week was 347 lb & 8 oz and his catches were: 17.5lb, 3 x 20lb, 20.8lb, 2 x 22lb, 22.2lb, 23.3lb, 24lb, 24.2lb, 26.8lb, 26.10lb, 27.2lb & 31.6lb.

Ross enjoyed his week and was happy that he managed to walk away with having caught 15 Carp including a 30lber.

Johan Bonnefond from Limoges stayed for 2 nights and managed to bag himself 2 fish, they were: 26.5lb & 30.5lb.
Johan was happy to have beaten his PB with the 30lb fish and wants to return regularly for short sessions.

Week 14 saw the arrival of Wayne Geddes from Coventry.

Wayne started his week in Harrier but spent one warm afternoon in Buzzard, Wayne also only fished 1 night in the week, the rest of the week he slept in the Gite and started his fishing again in the mornings.

Even though Wayne didn’t fish 24/7 he still managed to bag 19 fish but a 30 eluded him.

His total catch weight for the week was 389 lb & 11 oz and his catches were: 2 x 16lb, 16.12lb, 18lb, 19lb, 19.6lb, 19.11lb, 19.12lb, 20.3lb, 20.4lb, 20.9lb, 20.10lb, 20.11lb, 20.13lb, 21.4lb, 21.13lb, 24.4lb, 25.9lb & 29.2lb

Wayne was happy with his catches but he said next time he comes he will be fishing 24/7.

Week 15 saw the arrival of Chris Pownell’s group who bid on a charity auction and won a week at Etang de Planchon.

The 5 were Chris Pownell, Pete Kelly, Stephen Harvey, Mike Hayes & Wesley Gerrard.

The fishing this week was tough, mainly due to the temperatures hitting 40 Degrees and the fish not being interested in taking any bait
Despite the temperatures, between them, the guys managed to land 29 fish totalling 653lb & 2oz.

Wesley managed to land the most fish for the week, he landed 10 fish totalling 230lb & 8oz, his biggest being 27lb.
His catches were: 17.8lb, 19lb, 20lb, 21lb, 22.8lb, 24.8lb, 25.12lb, 26.8lb, 26.12lb & 27lb.

Stephen only landed 1 for the week but he was happy not to have blanked, his catch was 22lb. Check out the last picture below, he did manage to catch some zzz’s in the main house when the weather was extremely hot.

Pete landed himself 6 fish for the week, 1 of which was the biggest mirror of the week at 28lb &2.oz, his total fish catch was 133lb & 6oz.
His catches were: 16.10lb, 19.8lb, 20lb, 23.7lb, 25.11lb & 28.2lb.

Chris & Mike decided to stick with 2 rods for the week as this was how they fished in the UK.
Chris landed himself 8 fish for the week, 1 of which was the biggest fish of the week, a 30lb Common. His total fish catch was 176lb & 4oz.
His catches were: 2 x 18lb, 19.4lb, 20lb, 21.8lb, 22lb, 27.8lb & 30lb.

Mike landed himself 4 fish for the week, his biggest being 27lb & 8 oz, his total fish catch for the week was 91lb.
His catches were: 18lb, 19lb, 26.8lb & 27.8lb.

Although the weather threw the fishing off this week, the guys enjoyed themselves with plenty of banter and abuse, none of which came from the management of course… he he

Week 16 saw the arrival of John & Kelvin from Clwyd for the whole week, it also saw the arrival of Ray Prickett from Worcestershire, on Thursday, for a long weekend.

John and Kelvin started the week off well, on the right side of the lake, then moved to the left on Tuesday, they moved to give Ray his reserved double swim when he arrived on Thursday.

Between John and Kelvin, they managed to land 29 fish for the week totalling 667 lb & 10 oz, the biggest landing to John in the shape of 2 fish weighing in at 28 lb 2 oz.

John landed himself 16 fish for the week totalling 371 lb & 12 oz, his catches were: 2 x 17lb, 19.10lb, 20lb, 21lb, 21.4lb, 22.5lb, 22.9lb, 23lb, 24.15lb, 25.7lb, 26.4lb, 27.2lb, 28lb & 2 x 28.2lb.

Kelvin was not far behind with 13 fish totalling 295 lb & 14 oz, his catches were: 18.8lb, 19lb, 19.14lb, 20lb, 22.2lb, 3 x 22.4lb, 22.12lb, 23lb, 27.14lb & 2 x 28lb.

Ray joined the guys on Thursday and fished until Sunday, he managed to land himself 11 fish totalling 216 lb & 2 oz.
Rays catches were: 3 x 17lb, 18lb, 2 x 20lb, 2 x 22lb, 23.8lb, 28lb & 28.10lb.

There is no one on the lake now until Saturday, I am sure the fish will be ready to bite when they arrive.

Week 18 saw the arrival of a group of 4 lads Clinton, Chris, Lee & Jack) from Stockton-on-Tees, and 1 guy (Mark Short) from Dover.

Mark Short is fishing days only for 2 weeks so I will report on how he did next week.

The weather up till Sunday, had been fair, sunny spells and a few showers, however when Clinton’s group arrived the weather turned to showers, showers & more showers. The sun did pop its head out now and then but for the most part of the week it rained, quite heavily most days and most nights.

This did not deter the lads from the fishing, although they had packed for a sunnier week, they were supplied with extra towels and also a few jumpers were lent out.

I did have to take Chris to Decathlon (a sports shop) for a few bits as he had no waterproof clothing at all and in the weather that they had last week, it didn’t take him long to run out of dry clothes.

Now I don’t know if it was the weather making them boisterous or the fish just getting their revenge for having been caught, but even after the guys played the fish for a while to tire them out, most of them were very lively on the bank.
Chris got soaked more than once and Lee got slapped in the face, not by a local girl, but by the fish’s tails. They were very camera shy this week and did not want to play ball.

Jack spent a bit of his time at the house, playing with the dogs. One of the times he had asked Lee & Clinton to watch his rods. 5 minutes after being at the house his rods went screaming and it looked like Lee was ignoring the run. After Jack got to his swim in record time, he noticed Clinton tucked behind a bush pulling at his line. Let’s just say I have never seen a 16 year old run so fast.

How they fished:
Between them they caught 40 fish totalling 965 lb 13 oz.

Clinton fished hair rigged boilies over a small bed of boilies & Pellet. Most of his catches were on cell dumbells or Trigga and pink pepper pop-ups. Clinton also missed 3 runs and had 4 fish shake the hook near the net.
He landed 16 Fish over the week totalling 384 lb 4 oz, his biggest for the week was 30 lb 2 oz.
These were Clint’s catches: 2 x 18lb, 20.6lb, 21.4lb, 21.8lb, 22lb, 23lb, 23.6lb, 23.10lb, 24lb, 25.8lb, 27lb, 28.4lb, 28.6lb, 29.14lb & 30.2lb.

Lee fished hair rigged boilies and, anti-tangle tubing with a size 4 wide gape hook. All his fish were caught on Trigga & pop up corn, KG1 dumbell and pop up corn or strawberry boilie and pop up corn.
Lee missed 2 fish and had 1 hook pull.
He landed 9 fish over the week totalling 217 lb 10oz, his biggest for the week was 29 lb 15 oz
These were Lee’s catches: 18.1lb, 19.7lb, 23.1lb, 23.3lb, 23.6lb, 25.2lb, 26.6lb, 29.1lb & 29.15lb.

Chris fished 6/8 freebie boilies every 2 hours, Pva bags of Pellet with every cast, going in the rowing boat to bait up more accurately with Pellet. All of his fish were caught on 20mm/15mm Trigga and pink pepper pop ups, Trigga bottom bait, 15mm cell and pink pepper pop up or bloodworm boilie and pink pepper pop ups. Chris had 1 miss, he struck a run but nothing was there.
He landed 8 fish over the week totalling 193 lb 9 oz, his biggest was 29 lb 8 oz.
These were Chris’ catches: 18.2lb, 19.8lb, 22.3lb, 24.8lb, 25lb, 26.14lb, 27.14lb & 29.8lb.

Jack fished Anti tangle tubing safety rig, size 4 Korda hooks, pva bags with boilies & pellet, 2.5oz leads. Jack says the 6 fish he missed were down to him being a heavy sleeper and not getting out of his bivvy in time.
He landed 7 fish over the week totalling 170 lb 6 oz, his biggest was his first fish at 28 lb 4 oz.
These were his catches: 2 x 21.6lb, 24.1lb, 24.3lb, 25lb, 26.8lb & 28.4lb.

Week 19 saw Mark Short from Dover fish his second week, also it saw the arrival of 2 groups of 2 arriving for 5 days of fishing, Clive & Nick from Surrey and Andy with his son Sam from Wirral.

Mark Short arrived along side last week’s group, he only fished days and not every day. He brought along his wife, Julie, and his 10 year old dog, Bobby, all of them stayed in the Gite each night and on Marks swim during the days he fished.

Marks first week was plagued with the same rain as last weeks anglers, and whereas dogs usually don’t mind the rain, Bobby decided it was a bit much and took cover on the landing mat, under the Velcro cover.
The weather for Marks second week picked up and he managed to catch a few rays before he left.

Mark started his first week in Harrier and managed to land himself 7 fish, he moved to Owl on Sunday morning and managed to land another 9 fish before he left.
Mark used Premier matrix boilies and made himself PVA bags of crushed boilies for each cast, with a scattering of about 20 – 30 boilies at the start of each day.

His total for the 2 weeks was 16 fish totalling 332 lb 9 oz, his biggest for the week was 28 lb 2 oz.
His catches were: 17.2lb, 17.7lb, 18.1lb, 18.4lb, 18.10lb, 19.7lb, 19.8lb, 20.8lb, 2 x 21lb, 21.4lb, 22.2lb, 22.6lb, 22.8lb, 25.4lb & 28.2lb.

Nick & Clive Dudley, from surrey, arrived Saturday and started fishing on Sunday. The guys did spend quite a bit of time at the house socialising, with Nick taking a keen interest in the chickens and checking they were alright and even letting them out for me at the crack of dawn.
They opted for Hawk & Kestrel and started with the same tactics of Trigga topped with pop up corn, with some hemp & pellet to draw the fish in.
Clive faired better than Nick and Nick tried various tactics but it just seemed it was not going to be Nick’s week.
Nicks catches came to Trigga topped with either Pink Pepper or pop up corn.
Between them they landed 10 fish, Clive with 7 totalling 163 lb 8 oz, Nick with 3 totalling 73 lb 14 oz.
Clive’s catches were: 17.9lb, 19.8lb, 21.8lb, 24.7lb, 26lb, and 2 x 27.4lb.
Nicks catches were: 21.14lb, 24.2lb, and 27.14lb.

Andy and his son Sam, from Wirral also started fishing late on Sunday. Andy had booked a double swim, and with his son Sam he was sharing 3 rods. They were allocated Harrier (Mark’s swim from the previous week).
Andy was looking to give Sam (12) the carp fishing bug, it seems to be working as they will both be returning in 4 weeks time.
Sam enjoyed himself for the week but was not used to the late night runs, it took him a while to wake up whilst his dad was playing the fish.
Andy & Sam fished with Trigga & Pop up corn with a scattering of freebies and some hem & Pellet.
Between them they landed 12 fish totalling 284 lb 11 oz, 2 of which were 30’s and the biggest being 31lb.
Their catches were: 16lb, 8.1lb, 21.2lb, 21.5lb, 22.3lb, 22.5lb, 24.5lb, 2 x 25.2lb, 28.1lb, 30.1lb & 31lb.

Week 20 saw the arrival of 3 guys from Essex, Kevin Johnson Senior, Kevin Johnson Junior and James Dalton. The guys drove down from the UK and were expected to arrive quite early Saturday morning (around 7 am). The journey seemed to go well and apparently they arrived about 3am and slept in the car. I found out later in the week they actually slept in the car, right outside the lake, they only had to knock and they could have had the sofas.

They all had a few teas and coffees to wake themselves up, and after going through the rules and chatting to the previous anglers, before they left, they went about choosing their swims.

Kevin Jnr & Snr decided on Hawk and Kestrel on the left side of the lake, James decided he might have Falcon, no actually Owl takes his fancy, no no it has to be Harrier, “if that’s alright with you?” he said.

All three of them brought some Darenth Valley baits along with them and did really well using N-Tice and Skunk & Plum, They all fished bottom baits and some were topped with fake corn, surrounded by a few freebie boilies.

Between the three of them they landed 55 fish for the week, totalling 1,274 lb 6 oz, 3 of which were 30’s.

Kevin Junior landed himself 10 fish totalling 235 lb 8 oz, his biggest being 29 lb.
His catches were: 17.12lb, 20.8lb, 20.10lb, 22lb, 22.8lb, 24lb, 25lb, 26.8lb, 27.10lb & 29lb.

Kevin Senior landed himself 21 fish totalling 487 lb 12 oz, 2 of which were 30’s and his biggest was 30lb 8oz.
His catches were: 2 x 18lb, 19.8lb, 3 x 20lb, 3 x 21lb, 3 x 22.8lb, 2 x 24lb, 25lb, 25.4lb, 27lb, 2 x 28lb, 30lb & 30.8lb.

James landed the most fish for the week with 24 carp on the bank totalling 551 lb 8 oz, 1 of which was a 30 at 30 lb 8 oz.
His catches were: 2 x 18.8lb, 2 x 18.12lb, 2 x 19.8lb, 20.8lb, 20.12lb, 3 x 21.4lb, 22.2lb, 22.8lb, 2 x 23.12lb, 24.4lb, 24.8lb, 25.12lb, 26.4lb, 26.8lb, 2 x 27.8lb, 27.12lb & 30.8lb.

Week 21 saw my other halves nephew, Chris Baker (19 years old), fish for about 10 hours over the week and 1 night, joining him for the night was my neighbour Marco Coultard.

Chris came to stay for the week and popped out to do a little fishing now and then, he usually does varying types of fishing in the UK and is not solely a carp angler. He was quite keen to get his hook into a big carp.
He fished with different baits that are being trialled here at Etang de Planchon and he managed to land 4 fish but he also lost 3. He caught 2 on the Etang de Planchon special (Trigga tweaked with Salmon Elite & GLM) topped with pop up corn, 1 on Skunk & Blackcurrant (a Darenth Valley Bait) topped with pop up corn and 1 on N-Tice bottom bait (also a Darenth Valley Bait).
His catch totalled 90 lb 2 oz, his biggest was 26 lb.
This is what he caught: 20lb, 20.4lb, 23.14lb & 26lb.

Marco joined Chris for his night session, he usually fishes for pike, zander & trout but fancied a bit of carp fishing.
Marco managed to land 2 fish and lose 2, he fished with N-tice topped with mussel & anchovy pop up.
His catches totalled 47 lb 4 oz, they were 20.4lb & 27lb.

Hi all, there was no report last week as the lake was booked for 2 weeks exclusively, here is the report for those 2 weeks.

Week 22 & 23 saw Les Bowen and his family hire the Gite and the lake exclusively.
Les was here on a family holiday, but with 2 of his sons, and his brother for the first week, he also wanted to get some fishing in.

Les didn’t fish constantly and didn’t fish many nights, he had days out with his family alongside the fishing.

The weather was quite cool when he arrived but it soon picked up and a majority of the days were quite hot, on average mid to high 30’s.

Les arrived around 11.30 pm Sunday night, he arrived to find his brother Chris (who flew down) already on his 2nd bottle of wine, everyone knew there was no fishing happening on the Sunday night.

Chris had already been telling me that there was a little rivalry between the 2 brothers when it comes to fishing. While Chris was here it was mentioned many times that, on a previous fishing trip for cats, Les’ biggest fish was smaller than Chris’ smallest fish.
Chris was first out of the brothers to bag any fish, he was winding his brother up until a couple of days later when Les pulled out 3 fish within an hour and the 3rd was the biggest (32 lb 6 oz) for the week and ended up being the biggest over the 2 weeks.

Two of Les’ sons also fished for the week, Nick and Glen. Nick fished the most out of everyone and most of the time, decided to stay on the lake whilst the rest had their family days out.

Here is how they all did.

Chris, here for just 5 days (both fishing and venturing out) landed himself 2 carp for the week totalling 44 lb, here is what he caught: 24lb, & 20lb.

Les managed to land himself 11 fish over the 2 weeks, alongside days out and playing board games by the lake with the kids.
He fished Trigga with fake corn, Trigga with Tutti pop ups and also had a couple on Trigga with Crab pop up.
His catch totalled 265 lb 8oz, his biggest was 32 lb 6 oz.
His catches were: 17.12lb, 18lb, 19.4lb, 21.8lb, 2 x 23.8lb, 26lb, 27lb, 28lb, 28.10lb & 32.6lb

Glen managed to land himself 9 fish over the 2 weeks, he also didn’t fish many nights and went out on the family trips. Glen fished Trigga boilies for the 2 weeks.
His catch totalled 225 lb 2 oz, his biggest was his first fish at 29 lb 14 oz.
His catches were: 19.10 lb, 21.10lb, 22lb, 22.14lb, 2 x 26.8lb, 27.12lb, 28.6lb & 29.14lb.

Nick fished the most over the 2 weeks, he did venture out some days and he did fish more nights than anyone else. Nick fished Trigga boilies and topped them off with either fake / pop up corn or Pink pepper or Tutti Frutti pop ups
He managed to land 25 fish totalling 575 lb 1 oz, his biggest was 28 lb 4 oz.
His catches were: 17.9lb, 18lb, 19lb, 19.14lb, 20lb, 20.4lb, 21lb, 21.10lb, 21.14lb, 22lb, 22.4lb, 22.8lb, 21.12lb, 23.2lb, 24lb, 24.6lb, 24.15lb, 25.8lb, 26.8lb, 26.15lb, 27lb, 27.8lb, 28.2lb & 28.4lb.

Week 24 saw the arrival of 2 groups of 2, Andy Lane and his 12 year old son Sam for their second visit this year, also Tom Suckling and Ian Dixon on their first visit.

Andy & Sam returned for a second fishing trip just 4 weeks after they left, previously Andy fished 3 rods while giving his son Sam the taste for carping.
This trip Andy decided Sam would have a rod on his own while he fished his own 3 rods.
Andy and Sam fished for 5 days and were in Harrier swim, as before, they both fished Trigga topped with fake corn on top over a small bed of pellet and hemp.

Between them they managed to land 26 carp, more than doubling their last visit, 3 of the carp caught were over 30 lb and the biggest was 34 lb 2 oz.

Here is what they caught:
Andy caught 21 fish totalling 517lb 7oz, his biggest was 34 lb 2oz.
His catches were: 18.8lb, 2 x 19.2lb, 19.4lb, 2 x 21lb, 21.3lb, 21.4lb, 24.4lb, 25lb, 2 x 25.6lb, 2 x 26lb, 26.2lb, 2 x 27lb, 27.2lb, 30.2lb, 33.8lb & 34.2lb.
The 33.8lb carp apparently would have been Sam’s but he couldn’t get himself out of bed, that was until Andy made him get up to take a picture.

Sam Caught 5 fish totalling 103lb, his biggest was 23 lb 10oz.
His catches were: 18.12lb, 19.8lb, 20lb, 21.2lb & 23.10lb.

Andy plans on returning next year with both of his sons.

Tom (16) & Ian (from Hertfordshire) were originally booked on for the end of July but due to a sporting injury they had to postpone until the end of August.
Although Tom was better and no longer in a cast, he still was on crutches so they were allocated a double swim and they decided only to fish 2 rods each and only one of the nights they were here.

Tom’s mum, Alex, was also here and was staying in the Gite. Alex became honorary net lady when Ian caught a fish, and helped with the photos and keeping the fish wet and generally being the bivvy dogs body.

Ian previously had not done a lot of Carp fishing and Tom was the experienced carp angler, but Ian managed to start the ball rolling and caught first. Ian managed to stay ahead of Tom in numbers until the end of the week when they both ended up with 14 carp each.
Ian did manage to the land the most in weight and the biggest for the week, all in all they had a very enjoyable time and are planning on a return visit.

Tom & Ian both fished boilies topped with fake corn over a small bed of pellet and hemp, the boilies they caught on were Trigga, DVB Ntice, DVB skunk & plum and DT baits N Blend.

Tom caught 14 fish totalling 288 lb 10 oz, his biggest was 26 lb 14 oz.
His catches were: 15lb, 16.12lb, 16.14lb, 2 x 18lb, 20lb, 20.2lb, 20.8lb, 20.10lb, 22lb, 23lb, 24.10lb, 26.4lb & 26.14lb.

Ian caught 14 fish totalling 306 lb 10 oz, his biggest was 28 lb 8 oz.
His catches were: 17.4lb, 18.4lb, 18.6lb, 2 x 19.4lb, 19.14lb, 20.12lb, 21.12lb, 23.14lb, 24.2lb, 24.10lb, 2 x 25.6lb & 28.8lb.
